Auburn Hills firm uses tech to cut purchasing costs
Featured in Great Lakes IT Report Spotlight
Not everything connected with the auto industry is
shrinking.
Auburn Hills-based Osiris Innovations Group has more
than doubled its employment over the past year, and
expects to double its revenue in 2008 over 2007 levels.
Osiris succeeds by helping its clients -- originally
auto suppliers, but increasingly other kinds of
businesses as well -- control what's called an "MRO
spend," an acronym for maintenance, repair and
operations, a business' nonproduction spending. In the
lingo of procurement, Osiris offers procurement
services, e-procurement, and supplier enablement for
e-procurement.
David Saroli is the company's president and CEO. He
founded the company in 2005 after selling an earlier
outsourced procurement firm. "Most organizations totally
lack visibility into their indirect spend," Saroli said.
In other words, they have very little idea how much they
spend on everything from office supplies to safety
supplies to nuts to bolts to gloves, and why they buy
from the people they buy from.
Osiris closely analyzes that spending and a company's
incumbent providers, then sets up an "e-catalog" with
its own list of supplier companies, as well as selected
incumbents. Most importantly, Osiris also sets up a
company's suppliers with the ability to fulfill orders
by e-catalog. "That way they don't need third parties
and they don't need to mix and match solutions," Saroli
said.Saroli said his company typically saves its clients
7 to 12 percent on supplies.
Osiris now has 44 employees, up from 21 a year ago,
and 67 organizations using its services, up from two in
June 2006. There are now 300 suppliers of various goods
in the Osiris network, up from 18 in June 2006. Osiris
is also expanding its office space, adding another 5,000
square feet adjacent to its existing 11,000. And it's
expanding into other markets - -the Detroit Medical
Center is using its services, as are Pilot service
stations.
The company also expects to fill 10 new job openings
by the end of the year, with positions becoming
available in project management, software development
and customer service.

Osiris Innovations Group Named to Industry Toplist
Featured in Great Lakes IT Report
Auburn Hills-based Osiris Innovations Group, a
provider of e-business products and services, supplier
enablement applications and procurement services, last
week announced it has been named to the 2008 Supply &
Demand Chain Executive 100. The annual list, created by
Supply and Demand Chain Executive, recognizes supply
chain solution providers that are at the forefront of
innovation. To address the challenges faced by today?s
small and mid-market suppliers, Osiris provides
technology that leverages a supplier?s existing
technology investment and fills the gap between the
buyer and supplier. Delivered through a Web-based,
on-demand environment, Osiris? applications are
specifically designed to reduce complexity, share data
efficiently and allow collaboration throughout the
supply chain. The net benefits are immediate: validated
cost savings, comprehensive information access, and
process improvements without significant capital
investment or impact on operations and support services.
Based on submissions from end users and solution
providers, the judging committee for the "100,"
including the editorial staff of the magazine, in
conjunction with the editorial advisory board, compiled
the list of leading supply and demand chain innovators.
The 2008 Supply & Demand Chain Executive 100 and
accompanying editorial can be found in the June/July
2008 issue of Supply & Demand Chain Executive, as well

Osiris Continues to Grow Against All Odds
During a time of layoffs and budget cuts, Osiris
Innovations Group (Osiris), a Michigan-based provider of
e-business solutions, supplier enablement applications
and procurement services, has achieved unprecedented
growth. By the end of 2008, Osiris will have increased
its staff by 180 percent, its office space by 150
percent and its annual revenues by 45 percent over a
three-year period.
When Osiris was founded by David Saroli in January
2006, the company occupied a 2,400 square foot facility
in Oxford, Mich., and had just 10 employees. In April
2007 with barely a year of business under its belt,
Osiris moved its 22 employees to a larger facility with
5,900 square feet of space in Auburn Hills, Mich. Just
one year later in April 2008, Osiris expanded its Auburn
Hills office space to 8,800 square feet to accommodate
its growing staff of 40.
How has Osiris managed to grow so rapidly in just its
first few years, despite the dwindling economy and
tumultuous automotive manufacturing industry? For
starters, Founder and CEO David Saroli is nimble, an
innovator who welcomes change and adapts his business
model accordingly. Second, Osiris has a great product.
Through his years in working with automotive
manufacturing companies, Saroli identified the need for
a commodity management tool that would simplify the
ordering process from start to finish. He started by
designing a proprietary e-procurement software system,
and today Osiris has evolved into a leader in e-business
solutions, supplier enablement applications and
strategic procurement services. Osiris global clients
include both buyers and suppliers of indirect materials,
primarily focused on the automotive and manufacturing
industries.
Today the future looks bright for Osiris as they
continue to add clients, staff and revenue. Saroli and
Osiris are proof that, despite a weak economy, a vision
can indeed become a reality.
